Tell Senators Romney and Lee to Stand Up Against Gun Violence
Recently, 34 people were killed and at least 62 injured in mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, and Gilroy, California. All three of the shootings were carried out by young men using assault rifles.
Utahns are standing together asking Senators Mike Lee and Mitt Romney to pass common sense gun reform, including legislation that has already been passed by the House and awaits action in the Senate, to help make our communities safer.
H.R. 8, Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 would close current loopholes that exist by requiring background checks for private gun sales. The House passed this bill on Feb. 27, 2019.
Funding to study gun violence would grant $50 million to the CDC and the NIH to research gun injuries and deaths. The House approved this funding on June 19, 2019.
Additionally, it is time for Congress to reinstate the federal ban on assault weapons that lapsed in 2004.
